Summary

San Francisco book-restoration expert Brooklyn Wainwright was hoping for a fun, relaxing weekend at a local book fair, but a murderer made other plans in the latest in this New York Times bestselling series。

Brooklyn and her new hunky husband, Derek, are excited to be guests at Dharma's first annual Book Festival。 The entire town is involved and Brooklyn's mom Rebecca is taking charge。 In addition to all of her other event related duties, she's got Brooklyn doing rare book appraisals and is also staging Little Women, the musical to delight the festival goers。 If that wasn't enough, she and Meg--Derek's mom--will have a booth where they read palms and tarot cards。

Brooklyn couldn't be prouder of her mom's do-it-all attitude so when a greedy local businessman who seems intent on destroying Dharma starts harassing Rebecca, Brooklyn is ready to take him down。 Rebecca is able to hold her own with the nasty jerk until one of her fellow festival committee members is brutally murdered and the money for the festival seems to have vanished into thin air。
Things get even more personal when one of Brooklyn's nearest and dearest is nearly run down in cold blood。 Brooklyn and Derek go into attack mode and the pressure is on to catch a spineless killer before they find themselves skipping the festival for a funeral。

One of the best in series! I could not put it down。 I learned even more about the process of restoring old books which I find fascinating。 I do not know if I would have the patience。 The Book Festival in Dharma was a wonderful way to get all the Bibliophile characters involved。 Now Brooklyn and Derek are building a house in Dharma - more opportunities to keep their lives anything but normal。 Going on to the "Little Black Book"! Maybe read slower so I don't have to wait so long for next one in se One of the best in series! How many time do we need to be reminded how hunky husband Derek is or what a great family she has or how idyllic her hometown of Dharma is? WE GET IT。 What we get here is a series of vignettes which appear to highlight her family and friends’ personalities and backgrounds rather than the mystery plot itself。 Very disappointed。

I really, really enjoyed this one! I mean I enjoy them all but for some reason The Grim Reader felt extra fun to me。

Kathleen

Excellent as always with a most amazing climax。 I may never read Little Women the same way again!

I love spending time with Brooklyn and Dereck and going back to Dharma is an added bonus! Wonderful story, good mystery and I always want to have a snack and a glass of wine while reading!

I just love this series。 Brooklyn is a librarian and bookbinding who just happens to be a murder magnet。 She is now married to Derek Stone, a security specialist and possible an ex spy for British agency M16。 They are off to the town of Dharma in Sonoma County where her parents live where a book festival is planned。 Murders ensue。 There is maybe a little to much cutesy lovey dovey, but the murders are solved。

It was so much fun spending a couple of weeks with Brooklyn and Derek in Dharma! This installment in the series was full of familiar faces, as well as plenty of new ones。 It was interesting to see more non-Fellowship members of the Dharma community (though sad that they don't share the basic tenets of the Fellowship--kindness and peace)。 I feel like each time we see Dharma, Carlisle fills it out a little more, making it feel more like a growing community/town and less like a Fellowship commune。 It was so much fun spending a couple of weeks with Brooklyn and Derek in Dharma! More of a personal thing with this one, of course it isn’t the first book in the series so, I may have enjoyed it more if I had read the others。 Takes place in California, and my experience with California is that they don’t get as excited about books as other parts of the nation。 (Seriously I only saw one bookstore the entire time I was there。) I didn’t really hate the book。 It was very simple so a quick read。 Not sure if I will read any of the others from this series。

Although I liked this book, it was not one of my favorites, not sure why。 Nonetheless it was a fun read and the bad guy was caught in the end。 Loved the book binding instructions, and the recipes。

This story is set in the town of Dharma where the main character of Brooklyn Wainwright grew up。 She and her husband have returned for the first book festival。 Brooklyn's mother is the person in charge and she is being threatened。 This time the murders seem to be not involved with the book that Brooklyn is repairing。 The book was a quick easy read。 This story is set in the town of Dharma where the main character of Brooklyn Wainwright grew up。 She and her husband have returned for the first book festival。 Brooklyn's mother is the person in charge and she is being threatened。 This time the murders seem to be not involved with the book that Brooklyn is repairing。 The book was a quick easy read。 。。。more

I always love visiting with Brooklyn and Derek especially when they are in Dharma and all their families are involved。 When a series runs as long as this one has, it always feels like you're visiting with friends and that the mystery ends up being secondary but mystery in this one was a real stumper (albeit downplayed a little) and the list of suspects never-ending but all is resolved well in the end。 Looking forward to the next。 I always love visiting with Brooklyn and Derek especially when they are in Dharma and all their families are involved。 When a series runs as long as this one has, it always feels like you're visiting with friends and that the mystery ends up being secondary but mystery in this one was a real stumper (albeit downplayed a little) and the list of suspects never-ending but all is resolved well in the end。 Looking forward to the next。 。。。more

One of the best of the series so far。 This one takes place entirely in Dharma, the hippie-like commune that Brooklyn grew up in。 I was worried at first how the author was going to get all of the fabulous other characters into the story, but she does and does it very well。The only downside was a little too much gushing, I love you's, and hugs; but that's probably expected when a book has such great characters。I'll probably reread this one out of order。 One of the best of the series so far。 This one takes place entirely in Dharma, the hippie-like commune that Brooklyn grew up in。 I was worried at first how the author was going to get all of the fabulous other characters into the story, but she does and does it very well。The only downside was a little too much gushing, I love you's, and hugs; but that's probably expected when a book has such great characters。I'll probably reread this one out of order。 。。。more

Love it when Brooklyn and Derek visit Dharma。 This is a good visit - in spite of the fact that Brooklyn is a murder magnet。 Good plot。 Even though I thought I might know who did it early on, there were enough false leads to make me unsure。 Loved having Brooklyn and Derek’s families around。 The book fair was interesting as well。 I’m missing Brooklyn’s work restoring vintage books though。 It was used in this book, but felt glossed over。 A couple of the characters also seemed a little too over the Love it when Brooklyn and Derek visit Dharma。 This is a good visit - in spite of the fact that Brooklyn is a murder magnet。 Good plot。 Even though I thought I might know who did it early on, there were enough false leads to make me unsure。 Loved having Brooklyn and Derek’s families around。 The book fair was interesting as well。 I’m missing Brooklyn’s work restoring vintage books though。 It was used in this book, but felt glossed over。 A couple of the characters also seemed a little too over the top mean as well。 Almost comic book。 Otherwise I would have given to book 5 stars。 Looking forward to the next adventure。 Hopeful that the word hunky will be replaced in the description of Derek 😉 。。。more

Fun and frivolous。 I needed more bookbinding and less Derek and Brooklyn love each so much。 This is book 14, we know that。 Still an enjoyable bon mot。

This series is one that I want to be just a little better than it is。 Brooklyn, her quirky family, and her James Bond style husband are all entertaining, but the premise, which is always basically the same, is wearing a little thin。 I still pick up every one off the new book shelf, however。 This one is set in her parent's wine country town, and those are always a bit better, though the number of bodies piling up is getting to be a lot。 Here, Brooklyn's mother is the lead organizer for the first This series is one that I want to be just a little better than it is。 Brooklyn, her quirky family, and her James Bond style husband are all entertaining, but the premise, which is always basically the same, is wearing a little thin。 I still pick up every one off the new book shelf, however。 This one is set in her parent's wine country town, and those are always a bit better, though the number of bodies piling up is getting to be a lot。 Here, Brooklyn's mother is the lead organizer for the first ever book festival in town but she's soon to face serious issues in getting it off the ground。For cozy fans。 Homicide in Hardcover is the first book in the series。。 。。。more

If it were not for the overly sappy dialogue, they might be more enjoyable。。 but alas, it continues。 And now we have an Evanovich nick with Gabriel’s “Babe” being overly done, as well。 But still, there is bookbinding info and sone good recipes。Bleh!

The Grim Reader was an astounding read, I thoroughly enjoyed it。 The characters are loveable and quirky, and it's one of the main reasons I keep coming back to this series。 The plot was thought provoking and challenging enough to keep me guessing until the end。 The ending was very satisfying。 I would love to experience a place like Dharma, where I could walk through the wineries and rummage through the used bookstores。 I can't wait until the next story in this series。 The Grim Reader was an astounding read, I thoroughly enjoyed it。 The characters are loveable and quirky, and it's one of the main reasons I keep coming back to this series。 The plot was thought provoking and challenging enough to keep me guessing until the end。 The ending was very satisfying。 I would love to experience a place like Dharma, where I could walk through the wineries and rummage through the used bookstores。 I can't wait until the next story in this series。 。。。more
